Merrimack Valley FCU Celebrates 50 Years of People Helping People
February 2005 marked the 50th anniversary for the Merrimack Valley FCU. MVFCU currently serves over 40,000 members in the Merrimack Valley region and prides itself on quality member service, innovative products and services and an organization that gives back to the community of which it serves.
Established in 1955 by the Local Union 1365 the credit union was originally named The Communications Workers Employee Credit Union, located at Western Electric a part of A T & T (now Lucent Technologies) in North Andover. The credit union now serves more than 200 companies in the region. Frank Serio, volunteer Board Member since 1963 states "Philosophically speaking, very little has changed since those early days. The credit union is still a place for people to save money and borrow money at lower rates than they could get outside the credit union." And Frank is right. The credit union is still about people helping people.
Of course, much has changed over the last 50 years by way of products, services and technology. MVFCU is a full service financial institution offering fee free checking, financial planning, over 90 different mortgage products and the latest and greatest in online banking services. CEO Peter J. Matthews, Jr. states "Our branch network is continuing to grow, with our newest branch opening in early April in the North Andover Mall Plaza on Route 114. Plans are underway for another new branch in early 2006. MVFCU is here to stay in the Merrimack Valley and we're pleased to have the support of more than 40,000 members in the community standing behind us."
